¿Cuántas tazas de matcha se pueden beber al día?

How Many Cups of Matcha Can You Drink Per Day?

There is no universal answer — it depends on caffeine sensitivity, overall diet, and health conditions. But there is a reasonable working range for most adults.

The recommended range

One to two cups of ceremonial matcha per day is the most commonly cited guideline. This provides:

  • 60–140mg of caffeine — within safe daily limits (up to 400mg considered safe for healthy adults)
  • 30–80mg of L-theanine — a meaningful dose for its focus-supporting effects
  • A useful daily intake of EGCG without approaching levels associated with adverse effects

Can you drink three or more cups?

For most healthy adults, three cups is unlikely to cause harm, but caffeine adds up. At that level you are consuming 90–210mg of caffeine from matcha alone — still within safe limits but potentially enough to disrupt sleep if consumed in the afternoon. The benefits of additional cups are also likely diminishing.

When less is more

If you are caffeine-sensitive, pregnant, or managing anxiety, even one cup may be enough. A smaller, weaker preparation — 1g of matcha — gives the ritual and a gentle dose without the full caffeine load.

Timing matters

Finish your last cup of matcha at least six hours before bed. For most people that means nothing after early afternoon. The evening equivalent — hojicha — is naturally very low in caffeine and works well as a replacement.
