Il frullino per matcha può andare in lavastoviglie?

Can a Matcha Whisk Go in the Dishwasher?

No. A chasen should never go in the dishwasher, and should not be soaked in water for extended periods. Both will destroy it quickly and unnecessarily.

Why the dishwasher damages a chasen

A chasen is made from a single piece of bamboo, split into up to 120 individual tines by hand. Bamboo responds predictably to heat, sustained water, and mechanical force:

  • High heat — dishwasher temperatures dry out and warp bamboo, making tines brittle and prone to snapping
  • Prolonged water exposure — weakens the natural binding holding the handle together
  • Mechanical force — water jets and basket movement will bend and break the delicate tines

A chasen through a dishwasher is typically unusable within one or two cycles.

The correct cleaning method

After each use, rinse the chasen immediately under warm running water. Use your fingers to gently remove matcha residue from between the tines — this takes 30 to 60 seconds. No soap is needed or appropriate. Warm water is sufficient; matcha does not present significant bacterial concerns at normal use intervals.

If you want to sanitise it

A very brief rinse with water at 70–80°C (hot but not boiling) is sufficient. Do not soak.

How long does a well-cared-for chasen last?

With correct cleaning and drying after each use: six months to a year with daily use, considerably longer with occasional use. The investment in a quality chasen is recouped several times over by simply treating it correctly.
